First, a heartfelt thank you to those of you who have signed up.
I’d say the response has been spiriting, but it’s way too soon to have half of you unsubscribe because of an atrocious pun, so I’ll just reiterate - I appreciate it greatly. We’re still in the process of getting all the email blurbs, headers, content up - thats a work in progress.
My coverage universe of Scotch, Bourbon, and Armagnac is straightforward, but I’m still fleshing out how the formatting / standardization of posts will go. When I think of the three main arbitrages, they fall under:
Peer Values - suppose the “average” spirit of this age group and style tends to sell for X, and I find it for Y
Absolute Values - suppose that the average price for something, lets say Scotch Brand X, Product line Y is $80, but I find it marked at $50, and the consensus is it’s very good
Special Situations - rare or exclusive bottlings that may only be available on a limited basis or in some markets at low prices
My current thought is to label in the title. If the first three posts are a Special Situation, a Peer Value, then a Special Situation, the titles would be:
Special Situation [1]: Opportunity XYZ
Peer Value [1]: Opportunity ABC
Special Situation [2]: Opportunity 123
The main goal is clarity, so any feeback on that appraoch is appreciated.
Content wise, there’s also a lot of room for subjectivity. The core focus is on hard data: availability metrics, value multipes etc. But sometimes distillery backstory can influence value too. I aim for consistentcy, and over time would like to publish a dashboard of metrics, but I’ll let all that congeal as we go to see what works best for subscribers.
